What Are Art Cards?
We play this with a hand-made laminated deck of various works of art. 4 cards are devoted to each artist we've studied so far (Matisse, Van Gogh, Chagall, etc.). You can collect "4 of a kind" which would be 4 paintings or sculptures by one artist, or you can have a "straight flush." In a flush, you have artwork by many different artists as long as you can identify the artist AND convince the others of a reasonable connection between each of the cards. In poker or rummy, the cards would be connected by sharing the same suit - all hearts, all diamonds, etc. In this case, connections might be that the artists are all impressionists, the works are all monochromatic, or that the artists all worked in the 1800's, etc.
